Pupils follow a curriculum built around vocational outcomes underpinned by qualifications such as Functional Skills, ASDAN, BTECs and Duke of Edinburgh. Our highly skilled, specialist staff ensure an accessible approach to learning to maximise outcomes for students.
As students arrive in Key Stage 3 we begin assessing which pathway will be most appropriate and offer most success. Whether it be more traditional academic sessions or for those with a more pragmatic approach, access to outdoor environments and practical learning activities. We build upon existing knowledge, through motivating and challenging lessons, our Schemes of Work create smaller steps to learn new skills and knowledge via practical, physical and outdoor activities. Learners are encouraged to demonstrate autonomy over their learning through controlled choices. Additionally, there is a strong focus on developing communication skills, promoting positive mental health and independence.
In our negotiated curriculum classes students experiences are mapped out in creative ways to increase the ‘hook’ of learning. They are structured around the framework and content of the formal curriculum, but focused on Preparation for Adulthood outcomes.
Our Project Based Learning Overview
Our Yr 8 enterprise and industry projects are examples of this:
They take essential skills and knowledge from the heart of subjects and units and build on the acquisition of functional skills; whilst giving students autonomy over how they develop the project from the core concept they are given.
Our industry focused projects centre around aiding students to identify potential future pathways givign them the skills and knowledge required for them.
