George
Co-opted Governor
After serving in the Royal Navy for 23 years, I retired and embarked on a career in teaching. I completed my Teaching Degree in Secondary Science in Education at the University ofSunderland in 2004 and began teaching at a secondary school in South Shields. In 2007, I successfully gained a post at Atkinson House School as the Science Teacher. During the next 15 years, I gained internal promotions and was a member of the “SeniorLeadership Team” until a restructuring in early 2019.
The last 2 years in school were focussed not only on Science, but establishing teaching students in the community. I was due to retire towards the end of 2022, but due to Atkinson House School closing in the Summer, decided to retire slightly earlier.
I didn’t want to fully retire however, and wanted to remain in education but in a different capacity, so I successfully applied for a position with the organisation which provides common administrative arrangements forexaminations taking place in Schools and Colleges. This role involves me visiting educational centres mainly in the North East of England.
